Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the United States. She's been media critic since. She created Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and guest posts discussing the depictions of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has won awards for her work, is an activist blogger. She is the author and executive director of Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular media narratives. Alongside working to expose the issues surrounding the harassment and targeted attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes prevalent in pop culture. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Alongside being a popular public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university, Sarkeesian became concerned about issues related to gender equality and the rights of women from a young age. A woman with ambitions to launch a web-series that would examine the gender-based representation in video games was targeted in an internet-based campaign. This attack didn't stop her, but instead strengthened the determination of feminist media critic. As a result of the many accomplishments she's made to feminist movements, she has been awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that explores the portrayals of women in pop culture today.
